From a  14-year-old playing senior footy in Triabunna to becoming one of Tasmania’s most respected and beloved coaches, Leigh McConnon’s story is full of success and many highs. A speedy wingman who made his mark at North Hobart before being picked up by Carlton and later Fitzroy, Leigh carved out a career that spanned over 40 years across VFL, TFL, VFA, and Super Rules.

He’s a North Hobart premiership player, a proud Tassie rep, and a coach whose leadership and warmth have left a lasting mark on clubs including Clarence, Glenorchy, Huonville and Kingston. Twice named All Australian Super Rules Coach and selected to lead Tasmania’s Best 25 team in that space, Leigh’s legacy extends far beyond the stats — he’s known as one of the most genuine, player-loved coaches in the game.

In this episode, we chat about his journey from country footy to the MCG, the highs and lows of coaching, and what drove his love for the game and all connected.
